Rest assured, this is the latest printing

I just want to put to rest some of the previous concerns about this being an outdated issue. I'm a doctoral student, so having the latest version of this manual is paramount to the success of my program. That being said, I researched whether or not I should purchase this manual from Amazon, and almost didn't given some of the past negative reviews. I went with my instincts, however, trusting that a major retailer like Amazon would always offer the latest printing of a given text.

Needless to say, I was right in doing so.

I ordered this book February 27, 2012, and according to the inside of my copy, this is the fifth printing (January 2011) of this book. Rest assured that if you order from Amazon, you're getting the latest copy of a terrific resource and at the best price available.

Book: five stars...a terrific resource for anyone writing in the APA style.
Amazon experience: five stars...don't worry guys, you're getting the most recent version.

I hope I have helped alleviate some of the concerns posted here. While getting the proper version of this book might've been a problem in the past, it is no longer an issue.

Beware of knock-offs!

I am giving the low star amount because I believe I was sent a knock-off of the real thing. Although it was new and packaged, as soon as I pulled off the wrapping I noticed it had a horrid smell. I've never smelled anything like it, so it's hard to describe. But it's terrible! Then I began reading it. The pages were faded in some spots, and there are very bad spelling errors throughout what I have read so far. I had to go to my college bookstore and buy a copy from them, and I compared the real one with whatever the heck was sent to me. I am attaching pics to show how bad it is. There are a lot more errors, I am just posting a couple. I am returning it immediately. It sounds like most people are getting the real deal, but do be aware that there are bad copies going around as well.

I just wanted to add that I am not talking about the errors that accompanied the first printing, this was supposedly a 7th printing with the "errors" fixed. This was a book that had clearly been badly re-typed by someone, as can be seen in the pics I included. This is a counterfeit product IMO.

SPEND THE MONEY AND GET IT!

I bought this book after using APA for several years, and getting tired of professors teaching their own versions of APA style. I use it for every assignment and paper in my doctoral program, and even used it to prove that my citations were correct when the professor doubted me!

This book is a blend of my career and my hobby. Business and pleasure merged into writing and drawing for a living. Add to this the bonus of being a teacher who helps students whose goals are the same as mine. For me, sketching is a passion, an art form, and a paycheck.

If you are reading this book, you know that the skills in your mind are far ahead of your hand. You know that you are ready to create more for yourself but you need to know how to do it faster, better, and easier. You are ready to take your talent further.

The information in this book will give you the confidence and the expertise to explore your own imagination, your creative sources. I want you to be inspired to follow your fashion direction, in any media, in a single sketch or for a whole portfolio. This book is about your drawing style, not mine. By the end of Chapter 11 you will have a stronger definition of what you want to draw and how you are going to do it.

This book is about the business of rendering for fashion. Its purpose is to turn a difficult job into an easy one once you know the basics. Time-saving rendering techniques are translated into the art of doing a sketch quickly as well as beautifully. The structure of this book was designed to give you a crash course in coloring. It's a bit like mixing kindergarten freedom with college-level controls.

The first chapter gives you a brief rundown on the media choices in this book. It's all about options; you won't get locked into any one direction here. The next two chapters on figures, flesh tones, and fashion faces establish some preliminary sketching and rendering techniques. Croquis are jotted down, rolling quickly onto the page, done in large or small numbers in a group. In a clip of 20 figures or 40 pieces, they speed up the rendering process because they represent ideas in a moment of inspiration.

Great for starters

Bina Abling's Fashion Rendering with Color is a great source of information and consultation for starters on fashion design, and drawing in general. I've just started fashion design lessons, and I do not have many resources regarding this specific subject in my country, so I turned to Amazon.com to find the best, and I did. I've presented a collection of 30 dolls, using some of the styles on this wonderfull book, and I'm doing great, so I recommend this book to anyone who is starting, or just wants to know how to render with markers, and other materials.

Childish illustrations

I bought this book because it had such good reviews, but I was very disappointed with the contents. The title is fashion rendering with color, but most of the illustrations are black and white (very misleading). Plus the illustrations don't look very professional in my opinion. If you have no drawing skills but want to become a fashion designer, then this is the right book for you. Otherwise, don't buy it.

Disappointed with the amount of B&W content, but information is still useful!

I have found Bina Abling's books to the most useful of all the different fashion sketching books out there. This book was a supplemental to my Fashion Sketching class, and it has invaluable information on techniques for rendering multitudes of fabric, designs details, etc. in full color.

As noted in other reviews, there was also a lot of black and white images for a book focused on 'rendering in color.' But I have found that a lot of the illustration work I'm now doing will be printed in B&W, so having Abling's examples of how to create color and texture variance in a limited color palette has really helped my art.

I just couldn't get into this story. I could not suspend disbelief by that wide of a margin. The author is asking to much. Maybe if it was set on a planet other than earth I'd be able to not cringe when I read it. I understood what sort of book I downloaded but I just can't

Nice Story

I'm always cautious when reading stories about slavery and interracial relationships because I never know what to expect. This one was good.

Because it is such a short story, it's very fast moving so there's not a lot of background or detail. Anna is black and a slave while Joshua is white and a neighboring son of a slaveowner. Anna and Joshua practically grew up together and once Anna became a teenager, she developed feelings for Joshua, forbidden feelings that could cost her her life and him a lifetime of shame. Little does Anna know, Joshua feels the same, but how will they make this work?

I really wish the story were longer and more detailed. It all seemed a little too idealistic to me, and maybe that was the point of it all. Their relationship was met with little to no resistance which I found kind of unrealistic given the time period. I would have also liked to have seen more of their life once they left the south to travel north so they could live openly and freely.

Nevertheless, this was a good quickie if you love historical reads and want to read something quick.

This was a sweet story, but to me it seem more of a fantasy. There seem to be no substance or real facts. Considering the era it is impossible to believe that everything workout for this couple without any problems.

His loveletter to his homeland

During a couple of tours of the UK there were always unanswered questions about the sheep: why so many, what are the different kinds, is the wool of any use, do they really eat that much lamb, etc. This collection of essays does so much to explain the whys and wherefores. It's technical enough to satisfy the biologists among us while covering the historical and traditional and even romantic reasons for the continued presence in such numbers both of sheep and shepherds. The man is deeply in love with his countryside and its traditions and he writes so well. It enriches the experiences of the past tours and should be read before one goes. A lovely read.

More sheep in this book than the wolly kind

Lauds the simple life, goes hard as anti-academic, then becomes one, then bails back to the farm. An odd mixture of hypocrisy and consistency. Paints a beautiful romantic and exclusive picture of living and working close to the land. A story worth telling but it is a view of the landscape through an opaque tunnel where livestock are lauded beyond a station the public might be willing to award them. It has overtones of the same moral framework that nature-blinded environmentalists, western US cattlemen, and imminent domain developers display. Within their purview, their argument for human-hill sheep-pasture resonates. The love of their framework is beautiful though and this makes it well worth reading. Rebanks turns some beautiful and compelling phrases that occasionally reminded me of Wendell Berry (big praise!). As an academic and an outdoor educator though, I found his belaboring experiential learning over the classroom teaching slightly irresponsible and mildly depressing. The magic cocktail is some mix of each I think. He fortunately escaped through books, as did I, but many students excel with either or both and if generations of school-sneering kids (as I saw in the Deep South of the US) are required to keep the ag system intact there, I have to wonder if it is worth it. Ignorance should not be celebrated. So, a beautiful, romantic book of nature with some troubling barbs embedded. What will he write next?
The concept of a tamed landscape with exotic grasses, rock walls, sheep evolving into symbionts, and humans as the conductors of all of this rings of a God complex where all but markets and weather are controlled.
